What is a SAP or Substance Abuse Professional?

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance, A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation. The SAP then educates on substance use and makes recommendations concerning treatment, follow-up testing, and continuing care.
